Trend Report: Hairstyles Inspired by the Elvis Movie

elvis-blog_desktop-feature-1200x560.jpgIf there’s one thing that everyone is talking about, it’s Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Movie.

Released earlier this month, the film is already causing a stir, described as “kaleidoscopic portrait of the king of rock'n'roll (via The Guardian). The movie received a 12-minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival and is likely to be highly topical for the next few months and again later in the year around the Oscars period. The movie is an undeniable cultural reset, and we can’t help but walk away feeling inspired by the incredible hairstyles and outfits from Elvis’s era. With trends always bound to repeat themselves, we’ve taken a closer look into some of these iconic style moments we’ll be sure to see more of soon.

Elvis Presley was an icon who ruptured the culture in the 50s and 60s with his defying performances and ahead-of time style. Presley was known for his style almost as much as his music. One of the things that is clear about Elvis Presley and his wife, Priscilla, is that they shared a love of dressing up and style. Both Priscilla and Elvis Presley’s most famous look is arguably a hairstyle. We all want to know how to achieve Elvis’s perfectly slicked quiff or Priscilla’s voluminous bouffant. Haircare Group Creative Director, Peter Beckett takes note from some of Priscilla’s iconic hairstyles over the years and cues from scenes in the movie to bring three Elvis inspired hairstyles back into the spotlight.

Highclass

Nobody rocked a bouffant like Priscilla did, as evidenced by the iconic images of their wedding day in 1967 or after the birth of their daughter in 1968 which were perfectly brought to life again in Luhrmann’s Elvis. “This was the style, that was my hair. I had a bundt underneath and my hair went on top of it,” she told Vogue. “Probably about an hour and a half, is how long it took. And the problem was trying to keep it that way for a week,” she says.

Highclass takes inspiration from Priscilla’s famous bouffant – sassy and sophisticated, this look was the pinnacle of the decade with exaggerated volume and height and bouncy face framing curls – perfect for the classy woman that alludes bold, stylish taste.
