From running her own Barbershop to becoming a Global BaByliss Educator, Jasmine Kathleen has had many accomplishments in her 15-year career.

The inspirational barber started out undertaking an apprenticeship in hopes of following in her Grandma’s footsteps of helping people look and feel good about themselves through hair. Since then, Jasmine has solidified her footprint in the world of barbering. To get to know her story, we asked Jasmine a few questions about her career so far.

How and when did your barbering career start?

15 years ago a lady came to my high school who ran a hairdressing school. She interviewed a few students that were interested in getting into the hair industry. I was 1 of 10 that were chosen to participate in the short course she was offering that gave us the opportunity to pick up an apprenticeship which I did in 2006.

What drew you to barbering?

My grandma was a hairdresser in the 80s and all through my childhood I looked up to her and always wanted to be like her. In my eyes she was, and still is, the most beautiful lady that ever graced this universe. She made everyone look and feel good about themselves. After seeing her clients’ reactions at the end of her service I knew I wanted to do the same, help people look and feel good about themselves.

Where are you at now?

I’m currently in Melbourne running my own barbershop called Overgrown Supply located in the heart of a beautiful country town called Bacchus Marsh which I call home for now, however I would like to move back to the Gold Coast at some point as it’s where I grew up and it’s where my heart is. I love the ocean and it is where my family and childhood friends are based. I also have a decent clientele there still as I travel up when I can.

Proudest moment of your career so far?

I have a few “proud moments”, one would be being approached by Babyliss almost 6 years ago asking me to be a global educator and platform artist for them giving me the opportunity to educate all over the nation and world representing their brand. Another would be opening my own shop with my partner @timothyrennnie and building it up to be a busy and sought-out shop from all over the country.
